Sustainability

Our earth is a rapidly changing place – economically, environmentally and socially – and, whilst looking after and preserving it is too large a task for Nelsons on our own, as a team, we can make a difference for the next generations through small yet significant actions.

As the UK’s largest natural healthcare company, Nelsons strives to provide consumers with the highest quality natural health products to improve the nation’s well-being, contributing to a healthier and happier future. We have been dedicated to providing consumers and practitioners alike with high quality natural health products for nearly 150 years and pride ourselves with giving each remedy the same care and attention as we always have done.

We are committed to sourcing new and innovative ways to improve our brands and production methods whilst making every effort to protect our environment. Whilst a number of ethical practices are already in motion, we constantly research and review projects in order to improve our impact on the Earth. We also do not test our products on animals.

We also passionately support staff initiatives which help Nelsons to improve sustainability and by contributing to charitable causes. Internal events help raise money for local and national organisations and our corporate contributions to the Society and Faculty of Homeopaths and the homeless charity The Passage means we help support our industry as well as the people around us.

Our 5-step commitment plan:

  1. 75% of our materials are recyclable. We conduct a bi-yearly review of materials, ingredients and packaging to progress environmental efficiency in production and source suppliers who are committed to sustainability, ie. organic suppliers and those who support fair trade.

  2. We are implementing energy saving initiatives in order to reduce energy usage by 5% in 2009 per unit and are implementing a green overhaul at our main production plant over the next 6 months.

  3. We have been audited by the Carbon Trust and are working closely with them in order to offset carbon emissions, for example, Nelsons already plant trees in the local community.

  4. There are staff incentives to recycle and conserve including waste initiatives, travel management and numerous recycling stations.

  5. We are proud to be a home grown British manufacturer and will ensure at least 95% of our packing takes place in the UK.
