WAD (Weather Affective Disorder)

This week is the start of Autumn, but when you haven’t had a summer, it doesn’t make much difference. Following on from last year’s flooding and this year’s wash-out, Britain has seen an increase in the incidence of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) during the supposed summer months. Or should we call it WAD (weather affective disorder)?

A spokesperson from SAD.org.uk comments “We feel that over the last 2 summers low light levels and the lack of consistent periods of sunshine have caused further increases in the incidence of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Poor light levels in the Summer have meant that the SAD season (the period where people suffer the most acute symptoms) has been extended from the traditional mid-September to February period, to July through to March, and for some virtually all year round”

Have you been feeling any of the following?

  • Lethargy, lacking in energy, unable to carry out a normal routine

  • Sleep problems, finding it hard to stay awake during the day, but having disturbed nights

  • Loss of libido, not interested in physical contact.

  • Anxiety, inability to cope

  • Social problems, irritability, not wanting to see people

  • Depression, feelings of gloom and despondency for no apparent reason

  • Craving for carbohydratesand sweet foods, leading to weight gain

Fortunately, there is a simple system that can help re-balance our feelings quickly, safely and naturally. From the makers of Rescue Remedy®, the Bach™ Original Flower Remedies are a system of 38 remedies to help you manage your emotions and fulfil your potential. Made using plants that mostly grow in the gardens of the Bach Centre, they are produced according to Dr Bach’s traditional methods, which date back over 75 years. They are safe, effective and used world-wide by millions of people including respected medical and complementary health practitioners alike.

Judy Ramsell Howard, Director of The Bach Centre, Dr Bach’s former home and work place, says:  “At winter time a lot of people feel down for various reasons.  With its short, dark days and unsociable weather, it’s no wonder many of us get a bit miserable when winter descends.  People find that they lack motivation or just feel down in the dumps. Complementary therapies can be hugely beneficial in helping us relax and feel more positive.”

So which of the 38 remedies could help?

  • If you are feeling really down and can’t put your finger on why, add a few drops of Mustard to your water
  • If you have lost your drive and simply feel like you can’t be bothered, Wild Rose might help
  • We all know what Monday mornings feel like, but if you are getting that feeling throughout the week, try Hornbeam

Bach Original Flower Remedies cost from around £5.99 and are available from Boots, Holland & Barrett and most independent chemist and health food stores. For more information, visit www.bachremedies.co.uk
