The recommended daily amount (RDA) for iron is 14mg (for adults) however this reflects the typically low rate of iron absorption from most dietary iron sources (estimated at 5-20%).
If you are not getting enough iron from your diet and you experience the symptoms of iron deficiency your health care professional may advise you to supplement your diet with iron.
However not all iron supplements are the same!
The absorption rate with conventional ferrous sulphate (= iron) tablets is estimated to be between 3 -10%. This means that whilst you take a high dose of iron you only absorb a small amount. Your iron levels may be effectively addressed, but the iron you can't absorb is excreted and that's what causes the unpleasant side effects that many people experience such as:
-
constipation
-
stomach upsets
-
headaches
Spatone has been scientifically shown to deliver a far more absorbable form of iron than conventional iron supplements. That way you can take a lower, safer starting dose to top up your iron levels naturally whilst experiencing less of the unpleasant side effects.
