Why Do Babies Cry?
When your baby cries it can sometimes be hard not to take it personally as a parent, but in fact crying can be a very useful tool for babies!
Always Read the label. If you are concerned about any symptoms that your baby may have please consult your doctor.
Babies can cry to call for help when they’re hungry, uncomfortable or even if they just need to relieve tension. In fact, newborn babies can cry for a total of 1 to 4 hours per day as part of their adjustment to the new life outside the womb!
By paying close attention to your baby’s cries, parents will soon be able to tell when they need picking up, consoling or if they need feeding.
Hungry cry: Usually short and low-pitched, it can also rise and fall
Angry Cry: More turbulent
Cry of pain/distress: Generally comes on suddenly and loudly with a long high pitched shriek followed by a pause then a flat wail
”Leave me alone” cry: Similar to a hungry cry
Whilst there can often be a solution to help a crying baby, one of the most distressing cries for a parent can be when a baby suffers from colic. A recent Nelsons® survey found that 49% of parents think that colic is the most distressing ailment for them.
