Nelsons Arnicare™ Kids Stick has joined hands with Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) to raise awareness for kids’ safety by donating 5p from the sale of each Arnicare™ Kids Stick sold.  CAPT have recently announced “Safer together” as the theme for this year’s Child Safety Week to encourage families to learn about preventing accidents and highlight the importance of them looking out for each other.

Bill Giles, Head of Fundraising at CAPT, says: “we don’t want to wrap kids up in cotton wool or stop them having fun as this is vital to childhood and an important part of learning and growing. But it is essential that we try to keep them safe and know how to help them if they do hurt themselves.”

According to CAPT, falls are the most common cause of accidental injury to children and young people. Every year, almost 400,000 children are rushed to casualty after a fall at home or in the garden¹. Here are a few safety tips from CAPT to help prevent falls:

  • Hold onto the hand rail when carrying a baby or small child down stairs and keep stairs clear of any clutter.

  • Watch out for signs that a baby is starting to crawl. Fit safety gates to stop them climbing stairs or falling down them.

  • Teach young children how to use stairs safely and but never let them go up and down on their own. Also teach them never to play on stairs.

  • Keep furniture such as beds and chairs away from windows to stop children climbing on them and falling out.
Fit window locks to prevent them opening wider than 6.5cm (2.5”).

  • Do not use the top bunk of bunk beds for toddlers or young children as they are only suitable for children over six-years-old.

CAPT is the UK’s leading charity working to reduce the number of ‎children and young people killed, disabled or seriously injured in ‎accidents.
