Are you concerned about your favourite herbal product?

There’s been some confusion lately over herbal products and whether they are staying on our high street shelves. To briefly explain, there have been new regulations coming into force which requires all herbal medicinal products to be registered under the Traditional Herbal Medicine Registration scheme. This is important as it helps to ensure the quality and safety of herbal medicines by the official regulatory body, the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency).  This is good news for the consumer as they can trust the traditional herbal medicines they buy are of suitable quality, safety, and meet modern day regulatory standards.

We have been contacted by an increasing number of worried consumers butluckily there’s no need to panic because all your favourite Nelsons products will still be available as usual. They will be largely unaffected by this new legislation and in fact, it has even allowed us to launch new products. Here is our regulatory expert, Steve Mann, with Nelsons official company statement:

“All herbal manufacturers have been given 7 years to gain medical licenses for their unlicensed herbal products. The deadline expired on 31st April 2011.

Unlicensed herbal products which have not gained a license and are currently on shelf will not be taken off shelf and will have a sell-through period.

Further supplies of unlicensed herbal products or newly launched unlicensed products will not be able to enter distribution and this will be enforced by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency).

This does not affect Nelsons products as our herbal products – Duchy Herbals Hyperi-Lift, Duchy Herbals Echina-Relief, all Nelsons topical creams (apart from Tea Tree) – have medical licenses.”
