Case study

Lucy, Amanda and Ben, have been asked to attend an interview involving a fifteen minute presentation, each in their own way feel anxious and worried.

Ben has all the necessary experience for the job but has been quietly worrying about the interview for days.  He’s rather shy and when under pressure is apt to stammer and become tongue-tied.   He’s feeling anxious and dreading it wishing it were behind him.

Lucy already works for the company was persuaded by her line manager to apply as it meant promotion.   She’s very competent but anxious about the presentation, she thinks she will be hopeless and wasting the interviewers time.  She doesn’t expect to get the job, and feels sure the other applicants will be better qualified and more experienced.

Amanda is well qualified for the job and generally calm, but when worried tends to be self-absorbed with a compulsive need to off load her anxiety.  She’s been calling friends and talking in lengthy detail about the forthcoming interview making a big drama of it.

Following an unsettled night, she woke up later than planned forcing her to rush and arrived feeling flustered.  Seating herself between Lucy and Ben she immediately started talking and when called for interview was totally unprepared and unfocussed.
