With the warm weather already here and it looking to be a balmy spring and summer, the anticipation of beach getaways and evenings in the park is almost upon us. With shorts, skirts and bikinis at the ready, how can we make sure we have the confidence to strut our stuff this summer? Alex Gerrard, who always looks fabulous on the beach, here she reveals her top health and fitness tips!


  1. Mix up your training schedule.

Try and incorporate both indoor and outdoor exercise sessions into your training regime, especially when the weather gets better as it keeps your training sessions interesting and you’ll be more motivated to continue.

Alex says: When the sun’s out I like to go for a run in the park and get some fresh air. In the gym I’ll mix up my session with weights and resistance work, I also really like boxing for an all body work out and interval training for over all toning.


  1. Get fit and healthy with a friend.  

Working out with a friend or partner is one of the best ways to keep you motivated, especially if you’re starting a new training regime. Cancelling on a friend is not as easy and you can both take it in turns to cook healthy meals for each other.

Alex says: It helps that Steven eats really healthily and this keeps me motivated to continue. I rarely work out alone, and instead work out with my personal trainer Deana Morgan or meet a friend for a run.


  1.  Keep a healthy balanced diet.

Try not to deny yourself different foods otherwise it can be tempting to binge on sugary treats. Include plenty of fruit and vegetables into your diet, which can be easier in the summer months when there is so much in season, but remember to allow yourself little treats!

Alex says:  Whilst I try to eat healthily most of the time I am a great believer in the motto “everything in moderation”. I still like to have a little bit of chocolate every day, I couldn’t live without it!


  1. Look after your skin.

When you’re exercising and eating healthily, it’s important to also look after the outside. When your skin is glowing it can allow you to bring out your summer wardrobe with a bit more confidence.

Alex says:  I try and exfoliate once a week and love using Clarins or Elemis body products in the shower. I always apply a good body moisturiser after a shower, something quite light and refreshing, especially when it’s warm outside.


  1. Keep up.

When you’re working out it’s more important to have a good diet but sometimes even if you’re eating well, your diet alone doesn’t provide you with all the nutrients you need especially if you’re working out hard. Iron is one of these important minerals and can help tiredness and fatigue, and helps support energy release.
