Pharmaceutical Journal publishes paper supporting use of herbal Arnica in first aid situations

London, 3rd September 2005

The official journal of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, The Pharmaceutical Journal, today published an independent review suggesting that herbal Arnica is “a useful first aid treatment”.

The review of existing literature examined both clinical and non-clinical studies on Arnica to determine its efficacy as a symptomatic treatment for ailments such as bruising, soft tissue injury, insect bites and rheumatoid complaints amongst others.  The paper concluded that “in respect of herbal Arnica, there is a significant amount of non-clinical and clinical studies supporting its mode of action and clinical usefulness”.

The paper also examined studies on homeopathic Arnica and concluded that more clinical research was needed before firm conclusions could be made regarding its efficacy.

Robert Wilson, chairman of Nelsonbach said of the review: “As manufacturers of Arnicare, the UK’s biggest selling Arnica cream, we wholeheartedly welcome this review.  Arnica is one of our most popular products, with a long history of safe and effective use.  Nelsonbach is committed to playing its part in delivering a stronger and more appropriate evidence base for the safety and efficacy of natural medicines.”
